Ongoing Advocacy: The Lay Stewards Panel

In conjunction with affiliate groups across the United States, TCAT requested that Bishop Burns of the Dallas Diocese support the adoption by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops of a “Lay Stewards Panel” to receive information concerning complaints about abuse or mishandling by Bishops to ensure that such complaints were investigated and followed-up.

This proposal was made following the issuance of the 461-page Vatican report in November 2020, revealing flagrant abuse by former Cardinal McCarrick which went on for decades without corrective action.

To date Bishop Burns has failed to acknowledge or respond to this request.
